Iridium (Ir) abundance in relation to other elements at various depths of drill cores, taken from Kipushi, Congo. The Diamictite Petit Conglomerat is glacial till and the Limestone Calcaire Rose is a carbonate cap. Iridium (Ir), one of the rarest chemical elements in Earth’s crust, is relatively prevalent in some rock layers formed during the Cryogenian that are surrounded by rock layers indicating the beginning and ending of a very cold period.
