Video 1.2 Amoeba with Visible Organelles
An Amoeba moves across the field at 25x real speed. This cell has eaten numerous green algae, now contained in digestive vacuoles. The nucleus is detectable amongst the food vacuoles. Movement is generated from cytoplasmic streaming by actin microfilaments. Pseudopodia grow by cycling continuously outwards and then inward; note the clear zone at the growing edge of the pseudopodia. (1.3 MB) [© Cytographics.]
