Palmitic acid, shown on the left, is an example of a saturated fatty acid. In this molecule, every carbon is bonded to two hydrogens. Linoleic acid, shown on the right, is an example of an unsaturated fatty acid. Four of the carbons in this molecule are bound to only one hydrogen each due to double bonds with neighboring carbons.
